SANTA CLARA – It was difficult for 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh to try to suppress his elation after the 49ers’ dramatic victory on his 50th birthday.
So he didn’t even try to act as if he was taking the 34-24 playoff-clinching victory over the Atlanta Falcons in stride.
“Happy, happy, great thrill of winning, wonderful feeling of victory,” Harbaugh said on Tuesday during his weekly day-after-game press conference.
“I was, and still am, happier than a pig in slop.”
The 49ers’ remarkable win, coming in the final regular-season game at Candlestick Park, was clinched on NaVorro Bowman’s 89-yard interception return with 70 seconds remaining.
“It's the defensive equivalent to as good as it gets in a football game,” Harbaugh said. “It’s the best thing I've been associated with that's happened to my team.
“I’ll remember that until the day I die. I got it at 50. I couldn’t have had a better birthday present right at the halfway point. I’m shooting for 100 so I got it right at the halfway point.”
