SANTA CLARA -- The recent attention on domestic violence in the NFL has made everyone more aware of the subject, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said Friday.
Harbaugh did not want to speak about the specifics of the discussion within the team, but said the 49ers have used the negativity to address the topic and learn more.
“We’ve been working on football, and how we handle . . . what are conversations are, I mean, I don’t think are for public consumption, but I think everybody is learning,” Harbaugh said. “Everybody is more aware, is taking the opportunity to be aware of domestic violence. Just how many people it affects and just see what we can do to grow and learn.
“And that’s really what the conversations have been about. Hopefully we’ll be better for it, not just as a football team but as a society.”
On Monday, the Baltimore Ravens released running back Ray Rice after video from a February incident was released that showed him knocking his current wife to the floor of an elevator.
Defensive end Ray McDonald remains under San Jose Police investigation for domestic abuse. Harbaugh and others in the 49ers organization have cited McDonald’s entitlement to “due process” in allowing him to continue to practice and play.
