SANTA CLARA -- Quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick have split the first-team practice snaps through eight practices.
So it is no surprise they also shared the top spot when the 49ers released their first unofficial depth chart of training camp on Tuesday evening.
The 49ers have yet to decide which quarterback will open the exhibition season with the starting unit on Sunday against the Houston Texans at Levi's Stadium.
“I’m not sure, yet," 49ers offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins said on Tuesday. "We’ve got, what, five days before we play? So, we haven’t got that far yet, but towards the end of it I’m sure we’ll figure out how we’re going to do that.”
The 49ers' starting offensive line throughout camp was reflected in the official depth chart. Left tackle Joe Staley, left guard Zane Beadles, center Daniel Kilgore, right guard Andrew Tiller and right tackle Trent Brown are listed as the starters. Rookie Joshua Garnett and Anthony Davis, who are in competition for starting jobs, are listed as backups at right guard and right tackle, respectively.
One surprise on the depth chart is the apparent demotion of cornerback Kenneth Acker, who started 13 games last season. Acker is listed fourth at left cornerback behind Tramaine Brock, Dontae Johnson and rookie Rashard Robinson.
Ray-Ray Armstrong, Gerald Hodges and Michael Wilhoite are listed as the No. 1 inside linebackers at the position alongside NaVorro Bowman. Wilhoite has started 28 games over the past two seasons.
