Don't expect to see Jared Goff in uniform when the Rams play the 49ers next Monday night at Levi's Stadium.
According to Los Angeles head coach, Jeff Fisher, Goff will most likely be inactive.
“Jared’s had a great camp, so has Sean (Mannion)," Fisher told Steve Wyche of the NFL Network. "Case (Keenum) is clearly our starter. I think Week 1 just to settle things down … it’s probably going to be, like I mentioned last week, it’s probably going to be three and inactive. That’s just how it goes. And then next week we’ll flip them."
The Rams were slated to pick 15th overall in the 2016 draft, but traded up to No. 1 to select Goff.
The former Cal quarterback grew up in Marin County rooting for the 49ers.
"I just want him to feel and sense and absorb the pressures of Week 1," Fisher added. He’s going to be a great player. As we’ve said from Day One, we’re not rushing him. We don’t have to rush it. I’m really happy with where he is right now. It’s unfair to compare him to anybody else. I know Philly has got their situation, it’s a little different and trading Sam so Carson is going to start, but you know Jared is in a good place right now."
Over four preseason games, Goff completed 22 of 49 passes for 232 yards, with two touchdowns, two interceptions and three fumbles.
"He’s done some really good things," Fisher said. "So I’m really pleased with his progress.”
