Long-time NFL coach Chris Palmer, who served last season in an under-the-radar role with the 49ers, was announced Tuesday as senior offensive assistant with the Buffalo Bills.
Palmer, 65, will rejoin former 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, whom new coach Rex Ryan hired for that same role two weeks ago with the Bills.
Palmer spent two seasons as head coach of the expansion Cleveland Browns in 1999 and 2000. His teams posted a 5-27 record before he was fired.
Palmer worked on the same Houston Texans staff as offensive coordinator with Roman for four seasons from 2002 to ’05. Roman coached tight ends and quarterbacks for two years apiece.
Palmer, 65, joined the 49ers during the offseason program in a consulting role. Once the season began, he joined the 49ers staff full time as senior offensive consultant. He worked in advance scouting and staff support while with the 49ers. The team never announced Palmer's role on the coaching staff.
