ST. LOUIS – Tight end Vernon Davis, as expected, will return to the 49ers’ starting lineup on Monday night against the St. Louis Rams after missing one game due to back spasms.
Davis opened the season with two touchdown receptions against the Dallas Cowboys but has been held out of the end zone since that day. Davis has just nine catches for 91 yards on the season.

He did not play in Week 3 against Arizona due to an ankle injury, and he sat out last week’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs with a back condition that flared up in Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles. During warmups Monday night, Davis wore lower-back padding on his left side.
Bubba Ventrone and Kassim Osgood, veteran special-teams players who were re-signed last week, are both active for the game.
Second-year defensive linemen Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial are both inactive. Carradine, a second-round pick last year, has appeared in only one game this season. Rookie safety L.J. McCray is inactive for the first time this season.
