Running back Reggie Bush will remain in the Bay Area on Saturday while his teammates travel to Phoenix for an NFC West game against the Arizona Cardinals, the team announced on Saturday.
Bush has not practiced since sustaining a left calf strain in the first quarter of the 49ers’ 20-3 season-opening victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 14. Earlier this week, Bush said the plan was to play in Sunday’s game.
Bush also remained in the Bay Area last week to continue this rehabilitation while the 49ers played the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“There’s nothing I could’ve done there, other than go out and get myself injured again,” Bush said when asked what he was able to accomplish by not traveling with the team.
Mike Davis and Jarryd Hayne will be the backup running backs behind starter Carlos Hyde with Bush out of action. Hyde went through full practices this week while receiving treatment for a quadriceps contusion. Hyde is the NFL’s leading rusher through two games with 211 yards on 39 carries.
