Safety Antoine Bethea, who was voted the winner of the Bill Walsh award as the 49ers’ MVP, was officially added to the Pro Bowl on Monday, the team announced.
Bethea takes the spot vacated by Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor, whose team’s will be playing in the Super Bowl the following week.
It is the third Pro Bowl for Bethea in his nine-year NFL career. He spent his first eight seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. Bethea was second on the 49ers in tackles. He had four interceptions, as the 49ers led the league in that category.
The Pro Bowl will be played Sunday in Glendale, Arizona.
