SANTA CLARA – General manager Trent Baalke said Wednesday the 49ers did not grant LaMichael James’ request to be released.
The 49ers wavied James on Monday because the organization decided it was time to cut ties with the 2012 second-round draft pick, Baalke said Wednesday on 95.7 The Game.
“We just made a decision it was time to move on,” Baalke said. “It had nothing to do with any request LaMichael made.
"Where that’s coming from, I don’t know. But at the same token, we filled the spot and we’re focused totally on Chicago at this point.”
Agent Jeff Sperbeck wrote Monday via Twitter that James “appreciates the 49ers for granting him his release request (and) allowing him to pursue his career elsewhere.”
The 49ers used the roster opening to bolster their special teams with the re-signing of veteran Kassim Osgood.
