If you stare long enough, and use a little creativity, there are positives to be gleaned from almost any situation.
So here are the 49ers’ positives from their 24-13 loss to the Raiders on Sunday:
1. Frank Gore: When his number was called, the 10-year veteran produced. His number was called just 12 times and he produced 63 yards on a day in which nothing was working correctly with the 49ers’ passing game.
Gore averaged 5.3 yards per carry, while the passing game averaged a meager 4.0 yards per attempt, along with two interceptions.
[MAIOCCO: Gore: 'This is the low point' for the 49ers]
2. Bruce Ellington: After missing three games due to an ankle sprain, Ellington looked explosive in the return game. The rookie averaged 30.7 yards on three kickoff returns and returned one punt for a season-high 23 yards. The next step is to find a way to use his speed on offense.
3. Frank Gore: Not only did he perform well in his limited role in the game, he handled the disappointment with professionalism afterward.
Gore spoke openly and honestly about his frustrations this season. This is his final year under contract, and Gore sees his opportunity for a Super Bowl with the 49ers slipping away.
His answers are always heartfelt. He is able to convey a very human element to the 49ers’ struggles.
