The 49ers on Monday notified offensive tackle Chris Martin of his release, according to his agent. Martin, who spent the final three weeks of the season on the 49ers’ practice squad, will go on waivers.
Martin (6 foot 5, 305 pounds) joined the 49ers’ practice squad in December after the Minnesota Vikings signed offensive tackle Carter Bykowski, a 2013 draft pick, off the 49ers’ practice squad.
Martin originally signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted rookie from Central Florida in 2014. He went to training camp with the New England Patriots before signing to the Patriots’ practice squad. He also spent time on the Texans’ practice squad.
The 49ers last week claimed offensive lineman Sean Hooey off waivers from the New York Jets. The team currently has two vacancies on its 90-man roster.
