The 49ers waived quarterback B.J. Daniels and fullback Owen Marecic, and signed lincebacker Jermaine Cunningham, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.
After a strong preseason, Daniels beat out Scott Tolzien for the third-string job and seemed to be in position to possibly ascend to the backup role in 2014.
Marecic, who signed with the club two weeks ago, was active against the Colts but was inactive against the Rams last Thursday night.
Cunningham, a second-round draft pick of the Patriots in 2010, appeared in 36 games (14 starts) for New England over the past three seasons, tallying 3.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 43 tackles.
He was suspended 4 games last season for violating the league's PED policy.
