Editor’s note: This is the first part in a series that spotlights three 49ers-Seahawks matchups to watch Sunday, 1:25 p.m., at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks vs. Seahawks RT Justin Britt
Tale of the tape
Brooks (55): 6 foot 3, 259 pounds, ninth season, Virginia
Britt (68): 6 foot 6, 325 pounds, rookie, Missouri
Brooks’ season has consisted of a series of missteps after being named to the Pro Bowl last year. It all began when he showed up out of shape to 49ers training camp, according to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. In New York on Nov. 16, Brooks lashed out at 49ers defensive line coach Jim Tomsula and was benched. Last week, he missed a meeting and was late for another to find himself on the sideline against the Raiders.
Britt, a second-round draft pick, has been a starter since the first week of the season. He has struggled on occasion in his rookie season, allowing four sacks and 34 quarterback hurries, according to Pro Football Focus.

Britt should be facing a player who has something to prove. Brooks was benched in favor of the combination of Dan Skuta and Aaron Lynch last week. Brooks has been inconsistent this season, but he still is tied for the team lead with five sacks.
With a $7.3 million salary scheduled for next season, Brooks does not figure to be back with the 49ers. But he still has motivation to finish the season strong and prove he can still be a capable player next season.
