Former New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell reportedly has an offer from the 49ers to join Jim Tomsula’s staff as defensive backs coach.
Fewell, however, is first scheduled to interview with Washington to coach defensive backs, according to ESPN.
Fewell, 52, who served the past six seasons as Tom Coughlin’s defensive coordinator with the Giants, interviewed for a position on the 49ers’ staff over the weekend in Santa Clara. Coughlin fired Fewell after the Giants ranked 29th in the NFL in total yards.
Eric Mangini is set to replace Vic Fangio as 49ers defensive coordinator. Fangio and former 49ers defensive backs coach Ed Donatell are now with the Chicago Bears on John Fox’s staff.
