SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers’ list of 16 players on injured reserve is likely to grow for the 49ers to field a relatively healthy team on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals in the season finale.
“Yeah, it’s possible,” coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday at his weekly press conference. “We’ll hold off on what those will be, but it’s very possible.”
Safety Eric Reid sustained a concussion on Saturday night against the San Diego Chargers and remains questionable for the season finale. He must pass through the NFL’s concussion protocol in order to receive clearance. The first step is a visit with an independent doctor.
“He’s going to see the neurologist (Tuesday),” Harbaugh said. “And (we’ll) have an update by then.”
It was Reid’s third concussion in his two NFL seasons.
“That’s in the hands of the doctors,” Harbaugh said. “Concern? Yes.”
Outside linebacker Aldon Smith sustained a head injury Saturday that was not classified as a concussion. He returned to action.
Cornerback Perrish Cox missed time in the second half with a sprained shoulder. When asked if Cox will be available, Harbaugh said, “We’ll see.”
