SANTA CLARA – The 49ers on Tuesday re-signed former Stanford linebacker Shayne Skov to their 10-player practice squad.
The 49ers made the move after placing veteran inside linebacker Patrick Willis on injured reserve. Willis will undergo season-ending toe surgery.
Michael Wilhoite, Chris Borland and Nick Moody are the only inside linebackers currently on the 49ers’ roster. NaVorro Bowman remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list as he attempts to return from a knee injury sustained in the NFC Championship game.
The 49ers originally signed Skov as an undrafted rookie in May. He was among the team’s final cuts before the start of the regular season, but he landed back on the team’s practice squad.
The 49ers waived Skov from the practice squad on Sept. 15, along with cornerback Chance Casey, to make room for tight end Xavier Grimble and cornerback Leon McFadden.
Casey returned to the practice squad last week. McFadden is on the 53-man roster.
After the 49ers released Skov, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad. The Buccaneers waived Skov after one month.
