The latest version of EA Sports' football video game, 'Madden 16,' was released Tuesday and one Bay Area team is projected better than the other.
EA Sports has the San Francisco 49ers finishing with a better season than the Oakland Raiders with a 78 overall rating compared to the Oakland Raiders receiving a 74 overall rating. The 49ers are also seen to finish better in their division.
Both the 49ers and St. Louis Rams have a 78 team rating, but San Francisco is seen to finish third in the NFC West, one spot ahead of the Rams.
'Madden 16' has the NFC West panning out as so:
1. Seattle Seahawks 91 overall
2. Arizona Cardinals 82 overall
3. San Francisco 49ers 78 overall
4. St. Louis Rams 78 overall
Here's a snippet of how the creators of the game are looking at the 49ers:
The 49ers weathered a storm of change in the offseason, but they retained a few quality players to continue onward. The play of QB Colin Kaepernick (81 OVR) will determine whether or not San Francisco remains a contender in the NFC West.
In the crowded AFC West, the Raiders' 74 rating pits them to finish last in the division. With these projections, this is how the division looks to end up:
1. Denver Broncos 89 overall
2. Kansas City Ciefs 82 overall
3. San Diego Chargers 82 overall
4. Oakland Raiders 74 overall
Despite the low ranking and rating, the game loves second-year player Khalil Mack and rates him as the team's highest overall player.
LOLB Khalil Mack (91 OVR) is the star of the defense, and the other linebackers are solid.
Even with both teams having lower ratings than fans would hope for, the game is still high on a few players. The 49ers have two players that are ranked in the top five at their respected position, and the Raiders' first-round draft pick is the top rookie overall in the game.
Though he missed the whole 2014 season, NaVorro Bowman is seen as the second-best middle linebacker in football, just behind Luke Kuechly of the Carolina Panthers. Bowman anchors San Francisco's defense with a 93 overall rating, including a 97 rating for his tackling.
Another 49er being noticed by the game, is kicker Phil Dawson. With the changes to PATs, kickers will be vital in the game and Dawson is the fifth-highest one by 'Madden' with a 91 overall rating. He has 92 Kick Power and 89 Kick Accuracy.
Raiders rookie wide receiver Amari Cooper has high expectations for himself and by others around him. This also includes those at EA Sports. Cooper has the highest rookie rating with 82 overall, one spot ahead of No. 1 pick, Jameis Winston. He also brings 92 Speed, 94 Agility, and 87 Catching.
Ratings are one thing, but it's up to those behind a controller to determine the final outcome. So, 49ers and Raiders fans, grab a controller for your favorite video game console and let the Bay Area Football Battle begin.
