Running back Carlos Hyde and center Daniel Kilgore are among the five players the 49ers placed on injury lists upon reporting to training camp, the club announced Tuesday.
Hyde, who was held out of most of the offseason program with a minor calf injury, was placed on the active/non-football injury list, along with outside linebacker Aaron Lynch, and rookie offensive lineman Trent Brown and wide receiver DeAndre Smelter.
Hyde, Brown and Lynch are not believed to have injury that will keep them out of much -- if any -- practice time with the full squad. The 49ers’ first full-squad practice is Saturday, and indications are that all could be activated to take part in that workout at Levi’s Stadium.
Lynch sat out most of the offseason program with a hamstring strain. Brown participated fully in the 49ers' offseason program after coming to the organization as a seventh-round draft pick.
Defensive lineman Darnell Dockett, who signed with the 49ers this offseason after missing all of last year with the Arizona Cardinals due to a torn ACL, and defensive back Jimmie Ward, whose season ended with a fractured foot, both reported on Monday and were cleared for on-field participation.
Kilgore was placed on active/physically unable to perform after he sustained a season-ending fractured lower leg last season. Kilgore was the 49ers’ starting center last season, and will compete against Marcus Martin for that role again this season. It is not known when Kilgore could be activated to begin practicing, but coach Jim Tomsula said last month he expected Kilgore to be ready at the start of camp.
Smelter, a fourth-round draft pick, sustained a torn ACL in his left knee on Nov. 29 against Georgia. Although the 49ers believe there’s a chance he could be activated at some point in training camp, it remains possible he will open the season on reserve/NFI and miss at least the first six weeks of the season.
Players placed on either list can be activated at any time before the final cuts of training camp. Those players count against the team’s 90-player roster limit.
