SANTA CLARA -– Cornerback Tramaine Brock, who battled “turf toe” through the first nine games of the season, is expected to miss a game or two with a hamstring strain, a source told CSNBayArea.com.
Nickel back Jimmie Ward also did not practice Wednesday due to a foot injury. His status for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants is not known.
Brock returned to action Sunday against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday and played 19 snaps. But he sustained a hamstring injury during his limited play time. Ward played the entire game against the slot receiver.

Brock opened the season as a starting cornerback but sustained a hyperextended big toe early in the season opener at the Dallas Cowboys. He returned Oct. 19 against the Denver Broncos but aggravated the injury and sat out Nov. 2 game against St. Louis after the bye week.
Linebacker Chris Borland wore a blue no-contact jersey during practice and took part in limited practice. Running back Frank Gore was also limited for the second week in the row with a hip injury.
Linebacker Dan Skuta, who sat out last week’s game with an ankle sprain, returned to limited practice. Defensive end Ray McDonald was limited with a knee injury.
Nose tackle Ian Williams (fractured left fibula) and receiver Bruce Ellington (left ankle sprain) did not practice. Williams remains a possibility to be placed on injured reserve to open a roster spot, coach Jim Harbaugh said.
