Safety Donte Whitner, who expressed a desire to sign a contract extension with the 49ers at the opening of training camp, is coming up on the end of his deal.
Clearly, he wants to return to the 49ers.
In the early hours Tuesday, the following message was posted to Whitner’s verified Twitter account, “Y’all want me here next year?”

A few moments later, Whitner followed up with: “I give so much to this (expletive).”
Whitner, an eighth-year NFL player, is one of several prominent players whose contract is set to expire at the end of the current season. The list includes wide receiver Anquan Boldin, cornerback Tarell Brown and center Jonathan Goodwin.
Also, kicker Phil Dawson signed a one-year deal in the offseason. He has made a 49ers-record 24 consecutive field-goal attempts. Coach Jim Harbaugh was asked Monday if he’s told Dawson he wants him back.
“No, let me do that right now,” Harbaugh said. “Phil, stay beyond this season, please. No, I’ve been remiss in asking him to do that. Let me officially ask him to stay beyond this season.
“Pay the man.”
