SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers will open the season with five wide receivers on their 53-man roster after veterans Lavelle Hawkins and Austin Collie did not survive the team's last round of scheduled cuts.

Wide receivers Anquan Boldin, Kyle Williams, Quinton Patton, Marlon Moore and Jon Baldwin will open on the 49ers' 53-man roster.

Hawkins made a strong bid for a roster spot with explosive plays in the 49ers' final two exhibition games. He returned a kickoff 105 yards for a touchdown against Minnesota, then had a remarkable 45-yard catch-and-run through the San Diego defense on Thursday.

In five NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Hawkins caught 71 passes for 771 yards and one touchdown.

Collie had the most NFL success of any receiver other than Boldin. Collie caught 173 passes for 1,845 yards and 16 touchdowns in four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He played just one game a year ago due to a knee injury.
